FSI/FAR:

what is floor space index (FSI) or floor area ratio (FAR)

 Urban planning department decides the floor  space index of different area. Floor space index (FSI) is also called floor area ratio (FAR). FSI is ratio of total built up area of all floor to plot area on which it is built.

FSI = total built area of all floor/plot area

FSI is different for different areas, it is depends on the infrastructure, population of the area.

Example: calculate total built of area of g+2 floor building of plot area is 3000 square feet and FSI is 1.2

=>

FSI =  total built area of all floor/plot area

total built area of all floor = FSI × plot area

1.2 × 3000 = 3600 square feet

each floor area =

 total built up area of all floor/ no of floor

= 3600 / 2 = 1800 square feet.
