How to calculate staircase volume.

Height of floor = 3 m.

riser = 150 mm = 0.15 m.

tread = 300 mm = 0.3m

No of risers = floor Height/riser = 3/0.15 = 20

No of treads = No of risers - 1 = 20 - 1 = 19

1. Flight volume

flight volume = waist slab volume + steps volume

a. waist slab volume

waist slab thickness = 150 mm = 0.15 m

total run = tread × No of treads = 0.3 × 19 = 5.7 m

wais slab length 'Wl' = √(total run * total run) + (floor Height * floor Height)

=√(5.7 × 5.7) + (3 × 3) = √41.49 = 6.44 m

stair width 'Sw' = 1.2 m.

waist slab volume = waist slab length 'Wl' × waist slab thickness × stair width 'Sw'

=6.44 × 0.15 × 1.2 = 1.159 cum

b. steps volume

steps volume = 0.5 × tread × rise × stair width 'Sw' × No of treads

= 0.5 × 0.3 × 0.15 × 1.2 × 19 = 0.513 cum

flight volume = waist slab volume + steps volume

= 1.159 + 0.513 = 1.672 cum

2. Landing volume

landing width 'Lw' = 1.2 m

landing length 'Ll' = 1.2 m

landing thickness 'Lt'= 150 mm = 0.15 m

landing volume = landing width × landing length × landing thickness

= 1.2 × 1.2 × 0.15 = 0.216 cum

3. Rcc Handrail volume

If handrail is rcc then use below calculation

Handrail height 'h1' = 0.8 m

Handrail thickness = 0.1 m

Handrail volume = Handrail height × waist slab length × handrail thickness

=0.8 × 6.44 × 0.1 = 0.515 cum

Volume of staircase = flight volume + landing volume + handrail volume

= 1.672 + 0.216 + 0.515 = 2.4 cum
